Vic Falls Fest and other Fun

Seeing in 2011 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

The Falls Fest Line-up

The town was a-buzz with an estimated 5000 visitors attracted to the not so sleepy hollow for the two night New Year Music Festival arranged by Illala Lodge at the adjacent Rest Camp.

The Parlotones were a class act as anticipated on 30th December but the real thrill was that the whole programme took the entertainment value way beyond expectations.  Local 18 year old Kazz Douie with Tracy Chapman-like numbers really was impressive.  Her Dad, Harare based GP, on bass added local appeal!  Man Friday from London including artists from South African and two Zimbos were fantastic!  If you don’t know them – suggest you make an effort!

Previously unknown to us, Ghapi – drummer & vocalist, is a super entertainer, really connecting with the audience and welcoming in 2011 with energetic ACDC and other Rock!

The first New Year Festival in 2009/2010 featured Watershed under skies lit up by a glowing Blue Moon – quite significant with the rumbling of the Falls a few 100 metres away.   It was good and the organisers promised that next year would be better and boy, did they deliver!

What a pleasure to see the town so busy, safe, friendly and vibrating with people simply having fun.  Apparently a good omen for the New Year and a trend set to continue as forecast occupancies are looking promising.  It is seriously time that this destination claimed its fair share of tourism back – it is after all the REAL home of The magnificent Victoria Falls!
